TRAVEL GUIDE: MADRID, SPAIN
You have to visit MADRID. What an amazing city!!!
“On water I was built, my walls are made of fire. This is my ensign and escutcheon”
– Madrid’s Motto
Welcome to Madrid, the capital of Spain! With a population of almost 3.2 million people in the city, and 6.5 million people in the metropolitan area, Madrid is one of the largest cities in Europe (3rd as of this publication).
Madrid is certainly a place you have to visit soon! It is the epitome of what a world-class destination should be. The capital of what was once the biggest empire in the world – spanning from Europe, to most of America (including many parts of the USA – think of Florida, Texas, California…), to Asia, to Africa, and back to Europe.
Visiting Madrid allows you to experience life in a city that was been the home and inspiration of some of the worlds best artists, muscicians, writers, cooks, and influencers (think of: Ernest Hemingway, Francis Bacon, Pablo Picasso, Plácido Domingo, Salvador Dali, Pedro Almodóvar, Iker Casilas, Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Francisco de Goya, Miguel de Cervantes, Lope de Vega, Diego Velázquez , the Duchess of Alba, Mario Vargas Llosa, and Anton Raphael Mengs, amongst many).
You can walk down the streets of the Madrid of the Austrias (the old city), which is nestled in the center of the city. Walk around and savor delicious food and drinks (paella, serrano ham, croquette, patatas bravas, wine, sangria, cava…).
Visit world class museums such as el Prado, Reina Sofia, and the Thyssen. Buy the latest fashion trends in the classy streets of Serrano. Visit a real, active royal palace. It the official hosting locale for the last Bourbon king and queen. The Bourbons were one of the most important dynasties in the world, controlling the thrones of Spain, France, Naples, Sicily, Parma, and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
Spend the day relaxing at the Parque del Retiro and the Crystal Palace.
Delight yourself with the wonderful architecture of la Gran Via and Cibeles.
Watch a Real Madrid football match, go clubbing around the city, and enjoy tapas and a cold beer in the Santa Ana Plaza in the Barrio de las Letras or the quaint Mercado San Miguel.
